| The Val de Vienne racing circuit is under 30 minutes for car and motorbike racing and Oradour-sur-Glane, 1 hour - the village kept intact as a monument to those killed by the Nazis. |

| Limoges just over an hour to the south, for the famous porcelain and a superb botanic garden. |

| The Marais Poitevin marsh area best explored by boat is about an hour's drive. |

| La Rochelle is under 2 hours' drive for the sea, beaches and excellent seafood. |
